The problem with opening an Etsy store is that you need a shop name to do it - and it has to be one that NO ONE ELSE has EVER come up with.
This is not exactly the easiest thing in the history of ever.
I originally went with StormSongBoutique because it's a play off of my name and....well, I don't know why I chose boutique, actually. It just sort of happened.
Since then I've been looking for something a bit more....fitting? Catchy? Something.
Everything I've come up with has been taken.
Today I finally found one that wasn't and re-branded to:www.etsy.com/shop/DilettanteAl…
Now, this may, at first, sound presumptuous. It might also lead one to think I work with makeup as alchemy is normally a branch of chemistry and people get it mentally jumbled together with 'apothecary'.
My actual reasons for going with it are as follows:
1. It's catchy. I will not lie - this was something it had in its favor.
2. While most people throw the word 'dilettante' around like confetti, its actual meaning is 'someone who engages in a sport or art for enjoyment'. While it can have an air of superficiality about it, it is basically a synonym for "dabbler" - which anyone who knows me will tell you I am. Loudly.
3. Alchemy is the art of changing things, generally from one state or compound to a completely different one (ie: lead into gold). Since everything I sell is crafting, it's something I've taken raw components of and fundamentally changed, to some degree or another.
So. There they are - my new name and my reasons. Agree, disagree, but there's no going back now!
